My work is about engaging with peoples’ reality. It shifts from the ‘here-and-now’ to distinctive eras and places: the miners’ strikes of the 1980s, the epoch of the American gangster or the current perception of economic and social disintegration. I explore the cyclical nature of history and our narration of it. My method of working reflects these preoccupations: I collect ‘idiosyncrasies;’ personal narratives, everyday objects, press-cuttings, photographs, music and ephemera. I like to combine traditional methods of printing with the digital, to create images and narratives with a tangible feeling of time and place.
